The sacral chakra Svadhisthana is the second chakra and is represented by the orange color . It is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and creativity. It is located above the pubic bone and below the navel, and encompasses the genital region and the hypogastric plexus. The word Svadhisthana can be translated as “the dwelling place of the self,” and the element of the second chakra is water, which equals cohesiveness. A balanced second chakra leads to feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure, and joy. Its energy is characterized by flow and flexibility. The function of the sacral chakra is directed by the principle of pleasure. The Sacral Chakra is physically connected in the body with the testes and ovaries, the digestive organs, the kidneys and urinary tract, the circulatory system and the wombs.
Our pleasure Centre
This chakra is literally the pleasure center that can allow us to become true creative beings, connecting with our enjoyment of life. The central life concept of “who I am” is deeply connected to this energy center. This question can only be answered through using personal creativity and exploring relationships, intimacy, sexuality, food and appetite.
As humans, it is part of our nature to create. This creativity can be expressed as procreation but the second chakra energy is certainly not limited to making babies. When we cook, bake, or garden, we are creating. We create when we find a new solution to an old problem. Any time we take raw materials, physical or mental, and transform them into something new, we are using our creative energy.
Let the inner child be!
This chakra is also connected to the needs of the inner child. As a child we go through life with ease and pleasure. Trying, breaking, remaking…we are true creators that are not afraid of failures, but are just creating for the sake of doing so and because it fulfills us with a true and deep sense of pleasure, adventure and joy.
In our modern society and as adults we tend to feel overwhelmed by the seriousness of our lives and responsibilities, but we need to remember that life is just an experience and it’s only purpose is to experiment our true self and experience joy, love and pleasure.
Imbalances in the Sacral Chakra
The main characteristic of an imbalanced sacral chakra is finding yourself not able to fulfill your physical and emotional natural needs and feeling that you don’t know who you are anymore or what’s make you happy.
Imbalances on a physical level can also create:
- Back pain
- Urinary and kidney infections
- Gynecological cysts
- Abnormal menstruation
- Fear of change
- Low self-esteem
Balancing the sacral chakra
A blockage of energy in the sacral chakra can be healed with regular practice designed to stimulate the chakra, which allows energy to flow into it and excess energy to dissipate. Chakra balancing can be helped along by a healer, but there are many things you can do on your own as well.
Meditation is very useful for chakra cleansing and balancing. For example, a simple sacral chakra healing meditation consists in envisioning an orange lotus or orange crescent moon in the area of the second chakra in the pelvis area. Hold that image in your mind for a few minutes while breathing deeply. You can also use a frequency meditation that resonates with the vibration of the sacral chakra.
Sacral Chakra Healing foods
Dietary changes can also help cleanse your second chakra. Oranges, melons, coconuts and other sweet fruits are good sacral chakra healing food. Cinnamon is also useful, as is drinking plenty of water.
Sandalwood, Patchouli, Orange, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Jasmine and Neroli essential oils can be used as aromatherapy for second chakra healing.
Moonstone, Orange Carnelian, Citrine, Tiger’s eye garnet, and Tourmaline.
